With the dust settling on our playoff final defeat, and the realisation that we are in for another season of Championship football still sinking in, there are many decisions that the club will have to make.
John Terry’s stay at the club may be over after one season, and that will mean having to decide on a new captain.
Fans on Twitter believe James Chester would be the perfect man for the job:
If we make Chester captain and build around Grealish then I think we will have a good chance next year as we already have decent foundations, all depends of ffp of course #avfc

This Is spot on, Grealish vice

Chester has to be Captain, he is the only one that shows endeavour every time he steps on the hallowed turf.. couldn’t bear it if Villa were to lose him

Chester would be the obvious choice for captain. However if he leaves and we keep Grealish then I'd give him the armband.

I would be brave and consider making Jack captain

Don’t think Grealish will be at VP next year. Hope I’m wrong but if he has a offer from the PL then I think as a young up and coming player he will be advised to move on. As for Chester 100% he should be our captain. #UTV #SOTC #AVFC

Terry will stay ????????

Ray, if you’re right I’ll come round to your house and cook you tea every night next season!!!! Sadly, he was heard telling people to ‘stay I touch’ when leaving on Sat. 🙁

So Terry gone, we can't lose James Chester. Make him captain again #avfc @Dr_TonyXia

Verdict:
We are probably getting too far ahead of ourselves thinking about who will wear the armband next season. Currently, we have no idea what the make-up of the squad will be, and who could be sold.
As some mention above, if he stays, I don’t think Jack Grealish is a bad shout. He knows what this club is all about, he leads by example, and he could embody the youthful nature of the team that we will likely field next campaign.
Still, as I have said, a lot can happen between now and August. We’ll just have to wait and see.
