Summer capture Orjan Nyland has again made the headlines for the wrong reasons following Aston Villa’s score draw with Ipswich Town at the weekend.
Having been caught out and conceded two goals in the game against Wigan Athletic, the 27-year-old Norwegian international stopper had a rush of blood on Saturday and came for a cross that was never his to claim.
Having completely faffed it, it led to the Portman Road outfit’s equaliser on the day and Nyland left himself wide open to further criticism as fans took to social media to vent their frustrations.
Whilst some reactions were more balanced and pointed out he looked like he was trying too hard to impress and just needed to settle down and keep things simple, others pointed to Sam Johnstone’s start to life at the club which wasn’t exactly stellar either.
Others felt it was proof Steve Bruce had made an error in sending Jed Steer to Charlton Athletic.
I think the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.
Got to remember how bad Johnstone's first games for Villa were. Gained confidence, became the best keeper in the league. Giving Nyland the benefit of the doubt. #avfc #utv

Dreadful!! No need to come for that ball at all.

Nyland looks a nervous wreck, our best keeper is on loan at Charlton. Shambles #avfc

Not being funny but this is an international goal keeper, catching crosses should be his bread & butter

Last week he actually went the wrong way around a player to try and catch the ball, it did not end well

I can’t defend Nyland today, I hope someone gives him a slap. #AVFC

Give Nyland a break. Sam Johnstone looked nervous in his first few games and improved massively #avfc

Nyland. Clearly extremely nervous. Keen to prove himself, but trying far too hard and making mistakes as a result. Wanted to look impressive by coming that far and catching it, ended up going the other way.
I'm sure he's decent. He just needs to calm down and relax. #AVFC

You don't need time to settle when its goalkeeping 101 to not do what Nyland did. That was a Sunday League goalkeeping mistake and should receive critique for it. #avfc

I get the impression a clean sheet for this man is going to be massive for his own confidence as he continues settling in.
