After an incredibly difficult summer at Aston Villa for a variety of reasons, following the appointment of head coach Dean Smith and the arrival of our new owners, there’s certainly reason for optimism again.

With a record breaking winning streak in 2019, Villa have secured their Play-Off spot for the campaign and the aim will obviously be to go one step further than last summer when we made a disappointing trip to Wembley Stadium.

With plenty of groans this year, the second half of the campaign has given rise to a number of things to cheer about and the annual cheer of awarding the season gongs took place on Wednesday evening.

Former Hibernian sensation John McGinn understandably took the main prizes, winning both Players’ Player of the Season and Supporters’ Player of the Season awards. A close run thing I imagine given the form of Tammy Abraham, Jack Grealish and Tyrone Mings in particular. However, he was one of our standouts all season long and not just a top performer since January, and ultimately deserved the prize for me.

Goal of the Season went to Jack Grealish for his effort against Rotherham United, and highly rated Jacob Murphy took the Academy Player of the Season gong and many fans feel we may see a bit more of him next season under Smith.

Albert Adomah took home the Foundation Contribution gong and we can only hope the season continues to improve.
