With most eyes on Aston Villa’s opening friendly of the summer this evening, as we take on Walsall at the Bescot at 7.30pm, it’s been a reasonably quiet day on a transfer rumour front, but two did stand out – we have again been linked with Norwich City’s Todd Cantwell and there’s a new name in the frame in the shape of Bayer Leverkusen attacker Leon Bailey.
Links with 23-year-old Cantwell aren’t new as we were heavily linked with him last season, but with him now apparently only having 12 months left on his deal at Carrow Road, it’s being claimed we have made our move and are involved in ‘advanced talks’ for their homegrown talent.
Cantwell caught plenty of people’s attention in 2018/19 when he had his breakthrough year, and he’s continued to impress in more recent seasons, now boasting 85 starting appearances to his name.

A more left field suggestion today comes from the Daily Mail who claim that we have an interest in £30million rated Bailey.
The 23-year-old Jamaican international has over 150 starting appearances to his name and he also has good European experience from his time at Leverkusen. Last season he chipped in with 15 goals and 11 assists.
Both players are certainly in our transfer wheelhouse in terms of age, talent and experience but the Mail’s report does also suggest we are open to listening to offers for Anwar El Ghazi, so as ever, I doubt anyone in the press actually has much of a clue here but Bailey certainly seems an interesting prospect looking at his stats.
