Reports in foreign media have linked Aston Villa with a move for incredibly highly rated attacker Rafael Leao.

Nope, I’ve never heard of him either but outlet SuperDeporte namecheck us as a potential destination although that seems to hinge more on Suso given he gets the obligatory mention.

As for Leao, the 20-year-old Portuguese Under 21 international striker scored eight times for French Ligue 1 side Lille last season with three assists in only 18 starts and eight substitute showings, so clearly there’s something about him.

He came through Sporting CP’s youth system but was one of the players to cancel their contract when fans attacked players and staff at the training ground, but he does have four years left on his Lille contract which would explain the reference to 30million Euros in the report.

Former Sporting coach Tiago Fernandes is quoted by L’Equipe as saying the young lad has more potential than Christiano Ronaldo did at that age and French journalist Julien Laurens has already dubbed him the ‘Portuguese Mbappe’ so I imagine plenty of fans will get quite excited about our apparent interest.
