The club are looking at a possible deal for Jiangsu Suning centre back Trent Sainsbury, according to the Sun (via the Birmingham Mail).

The Australian international has impressed during the World Cup so far and his agent has already confirmed that that the player is interested in a move to Europe.

Sainsbury is in the last year of his contract in China and could be available relatively cheaply. The 26-year-old signed for Jiangsu in January 2016, but he has had loan spells at Inter Milan and Grasshoppers over the past two seasons.

Steve Bruce is reportedly keen to get word from Tony Xia about whether he can make any signings this summer, with the Birmingham Mail asserting that a list of targets has been drawn up.

Considering the current financial situation, it remains doubtful that we could afford the Australian defender, especially if he attracts interest from other clubs due to his performances in Russia.
