Following quickly on from our recent appointment of Johan Lange as Aston Villa’s new Sporting Director after Suso’s departure, today we confirmed the arrival of Rob Mackenzie as our new Head of Recruitment.

Mackenzie comes into B6 from Belgian club OH Leuven and he certainly has an interesting back story.

He made the switch to Leuven (I believe) from Leicester City when their owners purchased the club in 2017, but his spell at Leicester was productive as he was part of the scouting team that brought in Riyad Mahrez and Esteban Cambiasso. Prior to his spell at the Foxes, he was also on Tottenham Hotspur’s scouting team, playing in a role in the captures of Son Heung-Min and Toby Alderweireld.

Another small step as we look to rebuild and improve our off pitch setup and with Mackenzie working alongside Lange, I can only imagine it’ll be a further boost for Academy head, Mark Harrison, as we look to our next generation as well.
