Obviously the most important thing for Aston Villa to do this season is to stay up!

As things stand, it’s going just as I thought. Lose against the top five and pick up enough points against the others (particularly at home) to stay up. I’ve seen enough of a general competitive spirit in all games and I wouldn’t say anyone has easily beat us.

Our downfall has been throwing games away by conceding silly goals through mistakes. Players far too often losing possession through giving the ball away and shocking VAR decisions given against us. However, don’t expect all this Karma nonsense to redress the problem because there is no cure for total incompetence so it will continue while these fools operate it in this way.

We also need to learn how to cope with the professional off the ball fouling/blocking (in other words cheating) that all established Prem teams use in every game and it’s no surprise to see Man City top of that league as well.

Dean Smith?

He’s most certainly not above criticism, however, let’s not forget this standard of football, week in week out, is also a learning curve for him and that unfortunately means the odd mistake being made with timings of substitutes but he’s always trying to learn and I have faith in him to establish the Villa long-term in the top league.

In summary, the team, the manager and indeed the whole club are looking to quickly adapt to this demanding league and they need our 110% support and that’s what they will personally get from me, but sure I’ll give constructive criticism when something is clearly not working.
