Vital Villa Summer 2011 Interviews: CaymanVilla

How do you do one I hear you cry? Click here and find out! YOUR TURN: The Vital Villa Interviews..

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?

August 1966. Dad had played reserve football for Villa previously and he was from a large Villan’s family living close to ground.

2) Alex McLeish? Your opinion please?

No worries – I know I’m always looking for the positives in everything in life BUT. With our resources and current squad (plus one or two half decent ones to be added) I would find it hard to imagine we will play the boring defensive shot shy pants football of the Noses. AM has a reputation as a lucky manager – he certainly did in Scottish football with Motherwell and Rangers at times. Then last season was a case in point – winning a trophy with a fortuitous win against us after a lucky penalties victory in an earlier round – and as for the final winner, enough…… Of course we all dream for our beloved own teams – but imagine a few strokes of AM luck for us in an FA Cup run – and then the holy grail….. The ‘new SAF’ is born – you heard it here for the thousandth time! Putting everything into perspective, as a real Villan I have to give him 100% support whilst he’s our man. Of course not my first choice but now get behind him and the team, is my view.

3) Best and worst moments of last season?

Worst: The LC defeat to the Noses. Living in the Carribean, I was watching it on TV in a nearby bar early afternoon our time (with my wife who is a ex Noseseason ticket holder from UK days). Just shook her hand on the final whistle and left her in the bar until we met much later again at home. Then back in same bar on my birthday and the FAC defeat to Petro Dollars FC with the team we put out. Thinking about avoiding that bar for important matches next season!

Best: Although we did not win, watching the home match against Man Ure whilst on holiday in NYC with my baby son in his Villa top and watching us go 2 up. All the NY Villans Fan Club wanted him there at their bar at every match at that point. Or perhaps being at home watching TV on the last day of the season with our baby son (wife was out playing hockey to take away the tension of watching it all unfold, so she told me) – and dancing around with him as it all finished. Sad that there there were no stand out victories in my memory, although the importance of the home win against Newcastle at that point in time should not be underestimated.

4) Your opinion of Randy Lerner?

Naive at best. Woke up and smelt the coffee so to speak part way through MON’s reign. Will need a good PR campaign or silverware to win back many many fans after the last year’s shenanigans.

5) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer?

N’Zogbia /Given (if fit) / and would be happy with Scott Parker considering West Spam were virtually a one man team last season in the PL.

6) Stewart Downing, if he really wants out, should Villa refuse to let him go or get shot?

As I write, he’s gone. But at that price offered yes yes and yes – go quickly now! There’s no loyalty in modern football and it’s about money/profit to so many and at that price – yes.

7) Favourite current player?

Probably Bent on basis of his important goals this year – and then the beauty against the Arse. But to be honest, much of a muchness with no one being as great to watch as PMc (Q8).

8) Favourite all time player/s?

McGrath is head and shoulders above anyone else. But happy boyhood memories of the influence Andy Gray had (the Scottish one!). Plus any of the 14 from 80/81 that had me pinching myself after much of what I had seen in the previous decade and a half.

9) What do you expect us to do/finish this season?

Premier: mid table
FA Cup: SF
Carling: 5th round

10) You can ask yourself any question you want to about Villa and what is your answer?

Are we really just a selling club?

Yes – ever since Bruce Rioch, our card has been marked in that way. And I expect/predict after a brilliant next season, Summer 2012 will sadly see the departure of Marc Albrighton.

11) Right, lets lower the tone… which celebrity would you most like to bang and which (male I would think) celeb would you most like to thump!?!

Demi Moore

Is he a celeb – or just a successful (?!) business man – Rupert M.
