Up steps Deanovilla in our series of fans interviews.
1 – How long have you been a Villa fan and how did you first get the Claret & Blue faith?
Been a Villa fan since about the age of 5 (about 23 years) when I was bought my first pair of Villa shin pads.
2 – What was your first game?
First game I can remember was a 5-0 (or 5-1) thrashing of Hull City. Warren Aspinall scored 2 in the last 5 minutes. I was convinced he got a last 10 minute hat-trick but my mind is playing tricks as checked google and he only got 2.
3 – What is your most memorable moment as a Villa fan?
So many. I was lucky enough to be at both League Cup finals in the 90’s but a stand out moment for me was beating Inter Milan at Villa Park in the UEFA Cup. It was the one and only time I ever ran on to the pitch after the game. All friendly stuff and before it became such a no, no.
4 – And the worst moment?
Losing to Chelsea in the 2000 FA Cup final was not nice.
5 – Who are your favourite current Villa players?
Laursen, Bouma, Davies, Young, Barry. We have a lot of good players and the time is right to build on what we have and become a force again.
6 – Which former player/s are your ultimate heroes?
So obvious but No.1 is obviously Paul McGrath. True True Legend.
7 – Which player do you think was the worst to ever put on the team colours?
Alpay. So many fans rated him, but I always maintained he was awful even before he went mad. His fall from grace I believe has proved me right.
8 – What is the best goal you have seen Villa score and which is your favourite game?
Wow, thats a hard one to call. Pick one out of about 5 Hitzlsperger goals. Dean Saunders against Ipswich from 40 yards out sticks in the memory but Dalian Atkinsons against Wimbledon must get the nod. Better than Maradonaa’s goal vs England and if a real superstart had scored it we’d still be seeing it every week.
9 – Best away ground visited?
Old Trafford without a doubt. Hate the buggers but credit where it’s due.
10 – Who would you like to see Villa sign this summer?
Robinson, Miguel, Bruno Alves, Bentley, Sidwell and Pavleuchenko. I seriously think we’d finish above Liverpool after that.
11 – What are your predictions for us this season in the:
a) League 6th
b) Europe UEFA Cup Winners. Seriously think we can do it.
c) Carling Cup Winners
d) Fa Cup Early exit, probably to Man United!
12 – What is your opinion of Martin O’Neill?
Mixed. Not convinced he is the man to spend the money. Also not convinced he is the most tactically aware manager in the world, but credit where its due he gets the best out of
the squad he’s got.
13 – What is your opinion of Randy Lerner and the new board?
Breathe of fresh air. I love Lerner’s back seat approach. Just like to see him put his money where his mouth is now with some big money signings (see above) but then that could be down to MON.
14 – Where do you sit at Villa and are you a season ticket holder?
Upper Holte, K3. 3rd year in these seats.
15 – And finally (stolen without shame from Vital Arsenal!) if you could invite 4 people connected to Villa, living or dead, to a dinner party, who would they be? And you can add one bit of top totty as well to make the party go with a ‘bang’ ;o)
John Gregory would be a good laugh I reckon, am I right in thinking Ozzie Osbourne is a Villa fan? Now he’d be entertaining! Gareth Barry so I could kidknap him and stop him going to
Liverscouse. And finally Jonathan Fear, just so I could cut him out of any photo’s that were taken (private joke). 😉 Oh and as for the totty……….. Abi Titmuss. She’s not the best looking but she’s decent enough and is also pure dirt…. just what every guy wants ay?
