The club will look to re-sign Gareth Barry in the summer if we are promoted back to the Premier League, according to the Mirror.

Our former captain reportedly has a clause in his contract that means he can leave West Brom if they are relegated from the top-flight.

With the Baggies almost certain for the drop, the midfielder is keen to stay at a top division club, and it looks as though he could be given the opportunity to fulfil that wish by returning to Villa Park.

The 37-year-old is currently out of action after undergoing a knee operation, and the fitness issues combined with his age make this more of a gamble that it may have been in the past.

Barry could, however, be given coaching opportunities by Steve Bruce, the Mirror reports, which could explain why we could be interested in seeing the player come back for a second spell.

He made 401 appearances for the club, but his departure for Manchester City in 2009 was not popular to say the least.
