With reports over the weekend, and then a second wind on Tuesday, when it came to the speculation suggesting that former Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce had rather predictably told Newcastle United to sign Ahmed Elmohamady, it certainly garnered a reaction amongst fans.

“A Manager’s Dream” – Entirely Expected Bruce Speculation Arrives At Villa’s Door

With Bruce working with Elmo at Sunderland, Hull City and Villa Park, once he rocked up at St James Park, it was inevitable that he’d be linked with the 31-year-old Egyptian international at some point, so I doubt anyone was actually surprised when the media caught up.

It also meant that there was a healthy dose of scepticism around the claims, especially as they were so loose and typical rumour mill fare, and with Elmo being a pretty popular character at the club given his efforts in our shirt, he certainly has supporters that want him to remain for at least next season as we adjust to the top flight again given his experience in the game. There is also the line of thought that he wouldn’t want a move anyway given our capture of Trezeguet.

That led to some interesting reactions on social media, and I must admit a couple of them tickled me.
