Ever since Jack Grealish uttered the ‘set piece’ improvement phrase during an interview a good few weeks back, everyone and their dog has been discussing Aston Villa’s delivery last season – whether it be freekicks or corners.
This has undoubtedly fuelled the speculation linking us with a move for the likes of Southampton skipper James Ward-Prowse and with the return of Ashley Young, we have clear improvement in that department already.

With some talk of us bringing in a set piece specialist to improve us even further, on Tuesday morning that club confirmed the arrival of Austin MacPhee.
Vital Villa’s Austin MacPhee Forum Thread
The announcement didn’t say an awful lot about MacPhee’s background, but the former midfielder certainly carries some coaching experience behind him and it seems he’ll now split his time with us, whilst continuing to work as Northern Ireland’s assistant coach.
He joins us following a short spell with Danish Champions League side FC Midtjylland and this is a decent read following the impact he had at Hearts a few years back.
Another small piece of the puzzle once he gets his feet under the table and hopefully we’ll quickly see the improvement from his influence when the season starts for real, as we all know this is an area we can easily improve on.
Welcome to the club Austin!
