Aston Villa entered the late March international break with poor back to back defeats against West Ham United and Arsenal and when proper football returns, we have a joyful trip to Molinuex to face near rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers.

With largely pointless international friendlies to look forward to for the next week, Villans did have reason to cheer on Wednesday evening as the England Under 19s made a winning start to their UEFA U19 Euro elite qualifying round with an Aston Villa inspired 3-1 victory over Republic of Ireland in sunny old Walsall.

The headline from our perspective is that highly rated Academy graduate Carney Chukwuemeka helped himself to a brace in the game with each goal coming either side of the half time break. The first goal restoring England’s lead on the night saw a trio of ours involved, with Tim Iroegbunam and Aaron Ramsey combining to set Chucky on his way.

His second, and England’s third, was a bit of a simpler affair.

At least our youngsters should head back in good spirits.
