The Sun (via the Birmingham Mail) are reporting that we are interested in signing Wigan centre-back Dan Burn.

With the departure of John Terry and the doubts over the future of James Chester, we are said to be looking to strengthen our options in defence.

Fans on Twitter are not particularly keen on signing the 6ft 7 defender:

I understand the argument that we should try and rely on our youngsters especially if we are having to recruit players who are not really proven in the Championship.

However, at 26 years of age, Burn has played over 100 games in the Championship. On top of that, the Latics conceded just 29 times in League One last season, with the defender contributing five goals at the other end too.

Saying all that though, he was relegated with Wigan the last time he played in the second tier and was part of a Fulham side that conceded 79 in the 15/16 campaign.

  • I’m not sure we have a CB in the U23’s who is good enough to step up into the 1st team. Plenty of people have been raving on about Suliman but he couldn’t get a game in a poor Grimsby team when he was out on loan there. I’m not convinced Burn is the right man to go for but we definitely need some experience in there.

    • Suliman should be looking to get games, Grimsby brought him in as cover but we expected more game time for him. Jacob Bedeau is one option.

  • Burn twice the cb villa have a the moment but being a tics fan would love to tell potato head were to shove his self.leave our team alone u messed it up once do what u want to the villa no potential poor manager who can’t attract good players.

  • Worst centre back in England? That fan ain’t got a clue. I watch Dan week in week out at Wigan, and can honestly say he is brilliant. He is consistent every game, barely put a foot wrong in 2 years with us, he is a leader in the pitch and Villa would be very lucky if this story is true.
