The club have withdrawn their interest in Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Sean Clare, according to Teamtalk.com.

We had been pursuing the 21-year-old for quite a long time, and we were believed to be favourites to sign him this summer. However, the club’s financial situation means we have had to put the deal on hold.

Clare spent the first half of last season out on loan at League One side Gillingham before returning to Hillsborough in January for the second half of the campaign.

He wasn’t used that regularly by Wednesday Head Coach Jos Luhukay, managing four starts and one substitute appearance. However, on one of those starts, he scored against us when we beat them 4-2 away in February.

Despite impressing our scouts though, it seems he won’t be heading to Villa Park this summer. TeamTalk report that 14 different clubs are monitoring the midfielder’s situation with four Premier League teams: Everton, Fulham, Wolves and Cardiff City currently leading the way.
