Anwar El Ghazi was heavily criticised by some supporters after Aston Villa lost 3-0 at Wigan Athletic on Saturday. The 23-year-old has struggled for consistency since joining Villa on loan from LOSC Lille and he was largely ineffective against the Latics.
Before being hooked off after 62 minutes, El Ghazi failed to register a single shot in the game and created just one chance for his troubles. He did make two dribbles but was then guilty of making four unsuccessful touches and being dispossessed on two occasions.
He attempted just 13 passes against Wigan too, completing less than 70% of them, and didn’t find a teammate with any of his attempted crosses. All in all, it was a bad day at the office and fans let El Ghazi know that they weren’t pleased with what he delivered.
Inept show from #avfc. Taylor, Bolasie & El Ghazi were very poor. Sub Hause was off the pace and why Whelan was introduced when another striker might’ve changed our luck cost us dear.
Our squad options need to be so much better – or a 4th @SkyBetChamp season’s in the offing.

Dissappointed in El Ghazi, Bolasie and Adomah (and Kodjia) who we know are good players but they’ve been so inconsistent. Time to set up for them #avfc

I’d get Bolasie and El Ghazi off. Both have forgotten what football is today #AVFC

Bolasie and El Ghazi have been awful. No where near the level of snodgrass last season

Taylor, Bolasie and El Ghazi poor. Dean wants us playing on the wings but they’re devoid of ideas today and Taylor has been skinned there. LB is a massive priority but I’d love some new wingers on a permanent tbh #avfc

El Ghazi has made 14 Championship appearances for the Villans this season, scoring and creating six goals. His failed to find the back of the net since early December, however, and may find himself out of the starting eleven if he can’t improve his performances – the winger has contributed only one goal in his last seven outings in all competitions.
